Lunch with the teacher

Three super savers invited three friends to have lunch in the classroom today. They saved twenty cents (4 weeks of mini economy) to buy this time. Way to save Kenton, Mia and Owen!

What's happening- Lent and Spring

Be sure to read the school newsletter about our school wide Lenten service project (charity). Our classroom rice bowl is almost full (almsgiving). We went to Adoration in the chapel on Friday to spend time in prayer with our friend Jesus (prayer). This week the symbol we added to our Lenten symbols bag was the pretzel. Early christians made bread and folded it into the shape of the pretzel to remind them to pray for forgiveness.
* Please read the school newsletter about looking at your child's report card. If you are coming in for a conference you may want to make a copy of your child's report card and bring it with you.
In Language Arts we are reading and writing about the things we are learning about- spring, changes in the weather, new growth, etc.  In Math we are focusing on combinations.  Each child is working on a different combination depending on where their concept of number is at this time. The number concept your child is working on will be on their Quarterly update that you will receive at conferences or in next week's Friday folder if you are not coming in for conferences.  Children develop the concept of number through various activities in the classroom as well as number stations during Math Workshop.  In Science we will be observing and writing about what is all around us. In Social Studies we are doing jobs daily, getting paid and choosing to spend or save our money during Mini Economy as well as citizenship.  In Religion we are focusing on Lent, lenten symbols, our relationship with Jesus and others, and understanding that all of creation is from God and how evident that is in the changes we will be observing (new life).

Lent

Wednesday at Mass Father Paul talked to us about the three things we need to focus on during Lent: prayer, alms giving, and fasting. We have been discussing these three things during religion. We pray every morning with Mrs. Parsons over announcements, pray as class when we gather together in the morning at the carpet, pray before and after lunch, before snack time and then as a class at the end of the day. Almsgiving is giving to the poor through service or of money. We have a class rice bowl that is almost full from some children bringing in change. We do not eat meat on Friday as a way of fasting so we can focus more on God. During religion on Monday we are adding a symbol to a bag to help us to understand Lent better. This week we added a heart. The heart is a symbol of love. It reminds us that Jesus loved us so much that he died on the cross for us.
