Pep Rally
The kids were showing their school spirit at the Pep Rally with the signs they made during morning work. We got spirit yes we do we got spirit how about you? Go Rams! The kids were so excited as they can't wait to be on a sports team, in a club, cheerleaders, student council, and they all want to be the Holy Spirit Ram!!!!
First In Math
A huge shout out to the top five sticker earners to date in First In Math. They are Kenton, Ciara, Jack G., Cole and Lucas. Great job kids. I am able to get on everyday to see who the top sticker earner is and review a classroom summary. I need you to help your child master the math skills I am teaching at school and the only way to do that is by practicing those math skills. First In Math is an outstanding website that can be used to help your child practice and master the math skills we are working on in school. Stay in the K-2 world which focuses on Numbers and Operations and Geometry with shapes and patterns. These skills are presented in a game format so they are engaging to the student. There are levels of skill sets. If your child masters a skill set have them move on. Each student in kindergarten should work on math skills daily and just a few minutes on First In Math will help them do that. Please contact me if you are have misplaced your child's username and password. Some other ideas to work on math skills at home are counting and sorting, looking for shapes around the house, playing card games ( I just taught the kids the card game Compare but it is the card game War without the Jack, Queen or King) talking about number that are greater than and less than, measuring to compare longer than and shorter than, making sets and comparing which has more or fewer, etc. The underlined words are math terms that we taught and your child needs to understand and apply while doing math so hearing you use these terms at home would be very beneficial to your child's understanding.

Book baskets
Many of the children have expressed that they would like to make book baskets at home. You can get these baskets at the Dollar Store. Let your child fill the basket with some of their favorite books and ask them to show you how they do Read to Self and Read to Someone. You will want to ask them what was your favorite part and why was it your favorite part. Asking these questions and other questions about the story will help your child with comprehension.

Papers
If you see a paper come home with a check mark on it and a letter P that means it was a skill your child was practicing after it has been introduced.
Read to Someone
I was able to introduce Read to Someone during Daily Five this week since we built 20 minutes of stamina during Read to Self. This was not an easy task but with practice we did It ! Read to Someone is when you read with a partner. It helps to build fluency which is important when reading. Plus it is a lot of fun. Ask your child to show you how it works. Sitting elbow elbow knee knee one student reads while the other listens. The listener then asks two important questions- What was your favorite part? Why? We were able to build five minutes of stamina during read to someone. The children used The Creation story book they made during Religion which we had practiced reading by retelling the story. I also introduced Listening to Reading at the listening center. I look forward to speaking with you at conferences.
